2024 Chevrolet Colorado

Hitting the spot

Regardless of what you want a new pickup truck for in Milwaukee, West Allis, Glendale, or Menomonee, you expect certain things. Unless you need full-size or heavy-duty capability, the 2024 Chevrolet Colorado has it covered. The recently redesigned Colorado can be as rugged, capable, sporty, or luxurious as you want or need it to be. As well as looking fabulous and boasting the kind of capability full-size trucks used to offer, the 2024 Chevy Colorado is as flexible and versatile as you could ask for.

Straightforward versatility

Compared to some full-size offerings, the 2024 Chevy Colorado lineup is straightforward, with five trim levels. However, the five trim levels available cover quite a bit of ground, from the no-nonsense, fleet-focused WT (Work Truck) at the entry-level to the superb ZR2 at the top of the range. It's hard to overstate the difference between the two. The ZR2 is a genuinely outstanding model that can offer as much fun and adventure as you can handle. But there are plenty of sedate ways to configure your new Colorado to suit your specific requirements.

Between the base model and the range-topping ZR2, you then have the LT, Trail Boss, and the Z71 to consider, which gradually move Colorado from the affordable and utilitarian WT to the ultimate off-road capability of the ZR2 in sensible increments to cater to a variety of budgets. And if you want the ultimate Colorado for off-roading, the 2024 model year ushers in a sensational Bison edition of the ZR2 with best-in-class ground clearance, an AEV heavy-duty winch-capable front bumper, segment-exclusive Multimatic front and rear dampers and plenty more.

A very competent performer

It's easy to get overwhelmed by some modern pickup trucks' almost limitless configurations and specifications. The truth is, however, that a few main configurations often account for the overwhelming majority of sales. The latest Colorado is only available as a crew cab with a short bed and a single powerplant, but it's the combination that most shoppers would have wanted anyway. But despite a 2.7-litre turbo-four powering all five trim levels in the 2024 Colorado lineup, it's available in three different tunings: Turbo, Turbo Plus, and Turbo High Output.

The 2.7L Turbo puts out 237 horsepower and 259 lb.-ft. of torque, the 2.7L Turbo Plus raises the performance bar to 310 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque, and the 2.7L Turbo High Output adds an extra 40 lb.-ft. of torque to the same horsepower. A Colorado equipped with the 2.7L Turbo can tow up to 3,500 pounds, but the 310-horsepower tunings see that capability shoot up to an imposing 7,700 pounds.

A truck for all conditions

Depending on the 2024 Colorado specification you choose, up to five different drive modes are available to tailor the truck's performance and capability to suit the conditions. The five drive modes are Normal, Tow/Haul, Off-road, Terrain, and Baja. The Normal drive mode is for everyday on-road driving. At the same time, Tow/Haul does precisely what you'd expect by optimizing the transmission shifts, throttle response, and other characteristics to make towing trailers and hauling loads as easy as possible.

The Off-Road setting adapts the traction control and other dynamic performance technology for what you might consider general driving conditions when the pavement runs out, but not for the most hardcore, demanding off-road environments. If that's what you have in mind, the Terrain mode is there for more arduous off-road conditions such as low-speed rock crawling. The Terrain mode delivers tailored throttle control, brake performance, and other characteristics across three specific settings to make life easy for you. The Baja mode is exclusive to the ZR2, and this is where the real fun starts, as it's developed for high-speed desert running, with specific throttle control, tailored transmission shifts, and other body and drivetrain control calibrations designed to cope with such demanding conditions.
